Well, since the last newsletter we have killed off a jazz musician, been sent to a penal colony and discovered a lost tribe of the Amazon. By the end of next month, we will have given blood, fought against aliens, enjoyed a weird tea party with a hare and have uncovered Roger’s & Hammerstein’s missing musical South Dakota. I am of course referring to our radio plays that we are currently producing at the rate of one per week. We premier a new show every Friday at 6:00pm via a Facebook Live broadcast. All of the actors are recorded individually from their own homes and all of the recordings are mixed together with added sound effects by our talented staff here at the theatre, Jordan Deffenbaugh and Jesse Jensen. My thanks to them both for the excellent work that they do. My job is to find the material, do a bit of acting and directing, and keep our volunteers and audience engaged. The plays so far have been good and can be found on our website or via our Facebook page. The radio plays, Death of A Jazz Man, The Colony, People of The Tattoo and next week, The Blood Donor are all out there for your entertainment. They are free but we ask that if you enjoy them, that you would consider making a small donation. Think of it as a small ticket price.
We have also been very busy scheduling our future main stage line up and we have announced the new dates for Disney's Beauty and the Beast in the Spring. Show dates are April 22nd – May 2nd, 2021. If you have a ticket but cannot make any of the new dates, we ask that you consider donating all or part of your ticket price to the Sioux Empire Community Theatre, by simply not requesting a refund although of course full refunds will be available from the box office until July 1st, 2020.
We don’t know quite when our doors will re-open, but I can assure you that we will be ready to go and ready to keep giving you the very best of affordable theatre. Finally, in the words of my fellow countryman Peter Cook, “I don’t go to the theatre to see violence, sex and bad language, I can get all that at home." Stay safe and don’t forget to tune in to our radio plays.
