As we continue to cautiously move forward and prepare for our upcoming Season 18, we remain focused on improving our organization from top to bottom. I have learned that there are a lot moving parts in our organization that need attention from time to time.
One of the most important parts of the Sioux Empire Community Theatre is our board of directors and the members who serve. I want to acknowledge the service of two of our directors who are leaving the board this month, Erin Mulvany and Eric Parrish. Erin has been a tireless advocate for our education and young adult programs and will be sorely missed. She has taken these programs to another level in a short period of time. Erin has also stepped up in so many other ways and given her time and many talents as play director, production manager, project coordinator and thoughtful board member. I will miss her and want to personally thank her for all she has contributed to our community theatre organization.
I first met Eric Parrish when I auditioned for Jesus Christ Superstar and I have to tell you, there is something a little unnerving about standing up and singing a song to an audience of one, but Eric has a way of putting you at ease. Like Erin, Eric has given blood to this organization and was instrumental in getting the train back on the tracks. He brought a professional and worldly perspective to the board and served as an incredible resource on all things related to live community theatre. From directing numerous shows to serving on the play selection committee to lending a hand wherever one is needed, Eric was generous with his time and many talents. We wish Eric and Erin the very best and thank them for all they have done to make our organization successful.
I also would like to share that we have two new board members joining the board this month, Tammi Haverly and Joe Obermueller. We are very excited that they joining our board of directors. Tammi serves as the Special Education Director for LifeScape , a local non-profit organization that serves adults and children with disabilities. As a board member, Tammi will focus her time on our education and young adults programs. Joe is currently an Associate Professor and the Director of Theatre at the University of Sioux Falls. We are excited to put his professional experience and knowledge of live theatre to work for our organization. A special thanks to both Tammi and Joe for stepping up and joining our board of directors.
On a final note, I would like to invite you to join us for our virtual annual meeting on Monday, July 6th at 6:30 PM. The details on how to login to this Zoom event are located in the newsletter and on the website. Thanks for all you do to support community theatre in the Sioux Empire!
